Gateway NV55C54u 15.6" Discounts

Tim Boulay "Tim" (Washington, D.C.) :
Computer began to glitch intermittently about once a week, refusing to start and going into auto-repair mode. After a month, this started happening several times each week and taking up to 8 hours before the computer would work again. Contacted juliojdavid numerous times, but since it was outside the 30-day Amazon refund window, they refused to repair, replace or refund, and since it's a refurbished computer, Gateway has no warranty. Computer is now useless, despite several clean install attempts.

S. Fuller (Wichita, Ks) :
I bought the Gateway NV55C56u, which is just a little update from the 54u, as a replacement for an older laptop with Windows Vista. It's performance with Windows 7 is better then the older Vista laptop, but from signon to fully ready to use is still slower then other Windows 7 Laptops. I upgraded the memmory to full 8GB for about $38 purchased from Amazon online. This was to get better performance when needed for graphic's etc. Initial setup was easy an only took a few minutes, then had to do about 8 or 9 Windows software updates once online

NoxNoctura (West Virginia) :
I bought this for my girlfriend because she wanted a quality, reliable laptop without paying a fortune. Overall, it's a pretty good laptop. It's not a gaming machine, by any means, but that's not what it was purchased for. The negatives are as follows:
Offset touchpad - This thing is so far off to the left that it's almost uncomfortable to use. It's aligned directly behind the spacebar, but due to the full numberpad, the spacebar is not centered on the laptop itself. Also, it's very easy to accidentally hit the touchpad with the edge of your hand while typing. This can cause the cursor to move to some random point in a document, or cause you to accidentally click on a link on a webpage while you're filling out an entry field. Definitely an inconvenience, and definitely something that should have been thought of when Gateway was designing this product.

Bwise (IA United States) :
Received today and love it. It looks like new. Felt good opening it up and getting to work. Feels very sturdy.
UPDATE - my high school granddaughter was looking for a laptop for school and I was more then happy to give her this laptop. She loves it. Kufgator was the seller and the laptop was like new. I don't see his name for this product anymore. Can't vouch for any other seller.

RedConOne (USA) :
As a simple laptop to carry around to work and not worry about breaking it due to its low cost this one isn't bad to have. I'd rather break this every time over any of my other more expensive laptops. With that said it does have built in wifi which can be helpful. As the other reviewer said it has a rather low processor. It doesn't offer much storage but then again there is a reason why they are cheap. This laptop is what i would consider for a work laptop that just needs simple internet connectivity and maybe a word program. This also wouldn't be a bad choice as a starter laptop for some kids, since it is cheap and kids usually destroy things.

Parris Johnson (NJ) :
cons: no hdmi, no recovery loaded or available thru gateways support, must purchase a cd
pros: price, size, speed,battery life

Gateway ID47H07u 14-Inch Discounts

B. Goldfarb (Los Angeles, CA) :
I have had this laptop now for several months and can't be happier with it. The style is second to none. It is very similar to the new ultra books, not as thin, close but has everything I wanted and a DVD drive. Plenty of USB drives, has the new 3.0, has an HDMI, I5 and is super fast. The battery is built in and last for hours, I get at least 7.5 hours no problem. Also I really like the fact that this computer does not really get that hot. I have had laptops that just heat up, this one stays cool. The key is one of these new multi-function and works great. The screen looks fantastic as well, put a movie in looks great and the speakers are very good. Overall I am very happy with this computer

Christine S. Lok (Denver, CO United States) :
I love this laptop!!! I love the sleek look and I'm enjoying how user friendly it is. It was very easy to set up when I got it and have been on it practically every day. I've watched several movies on it already and have been listening to music as well. Sounds and looks great. I will be conducting a business very soon on my laptop and can't wait to get started.

Tuffy1 (Caracas, Venezuela) :
I purchased my Gateway Laptop just over a month ago and I'm very pleased with my purchase. Two years ago my wife and I purchased a Gateway Laptop for my son and that laptop has been very solid. I was impressed enough to go with Gateway for an upgrade for my Fujitsu Laptop which has been a disapointment(I worked for Fujitsu for many years). I would encourage buyers to consider a Gateway for your next purchase. Solid products and excellent support.

Gateway LT4008u 10.1" Discounts

Jeremiah Mahuron (Austin, TX USA) :
This laptop is okay for basic use. I would recommend it for anyone who needs basic computing. Unfortunately I cannot recommend to very many other people because it cannot do very many tasks at once and when it comes to labor intensive things such as movie maker or iTunes computer is slow and usually crashes. Of course this is to be expected of netbooks but there are other options on the market around the same price that might get you a little bit better performance. With Windows 8 on the market this 1024 x 600 display will not allow you to upgrade and run Metro apps. For this reason if you want to get Windows 8 I would recommend getting a Windows 8 PC with a touchscreen. Overall this would be a great PC for kids or for someone looking for basic use.

Ae (Southern California) :
Excellent for business traveler or back-to-school, everything you need in this handy tool. Great storage and graphics support. Easily to expand storage with all the connection ports available. This ACER build platform is the best alternative to the much pricier high end models with the same functions.

Bitenrat "David V" (Sebring Fl) :
This is an awesome dual core netbook and the only downfall is having win7 starter installed. For the price I paid I am in a position to buy a full verson win 7 os. The case has a nice pinstripe design-dark and subdued. The screen size is perfect and it's a great starter netbook. The vendor packed it well and looked pretty much brand new condition.

Gateway NE56R27u 15.6" Discounts

Maria Smith (NJ) :
The laptop came on time and everything was in the box that was expected and so far it works great. Only minus I can think is that it's a little bigger and bulkier than I had expected. Otherwise it's a great laptop, I'm really just using it for online access but it definitely exceeds those needs.

Christie B (US of A) :
I chose this rating due to the fact that every time I get on the computer it shows that I have a full internet connection, but then when I go to the internet, I get a message that I have no internet connection. I then have to troubleshoot every time and for some reason windows never can find a solution. I eventually get the connection, but this is ridiculous. My old computer with Windows 7 has a lot of purchased programs recently and I cannot transfer my backup to Windows 8. They want me to purchase everything over again even my Adobe Photoshop!! There are some serious issues here and will be returning this product and going back to Windows 7. I think Windows 8 was actually made for a touch screen.

Michael Merit (Bradenton, FL) :
We have had to buy 11 new antiviruis programs since getting this computer, Soon as we began using this laptop all of our others got viruses, inspite of our antvirus we already had. We have had to pay to have all the computers cleaned and this one has just never worked right, wont load onto internet half the time. It seems like a jinx

Gateway NE56R47u Notebook Discounts

Regina P. (Colorado) :
This laptop has been handy and reliable so far. For less than $400, including the 2 year extended warranty, I believe I got a fair deal. My use is pretty simple - a few websites to maintain, QuickBooks, Microsoft Office, internet, and email. Keyboard has a nice light touch.
I gave it 4 stars because i couldn't get it without Windows 8. I know it's silly, but I really don't like Windows 8. If I wanted a touch screen experience all the time, I'd use my phone or tablet. Too many steps to move through the screens.

Jon Vandiver (Dallas, TX) :
This computer is reasonably priced, works well, works quickly, and is one of the best computers I have owned. The RAM was small but it was easily upgradable. I am a very satisfied owner.

Jeff (US) :
The computer is overall a decent and good computer. For the price it is a great sized screen and fast machine. I mostly got this to check email, basic graphics editing, skype, word processing, and web browsing.
At this time haven't had any issues. The only thing keeping me from a five star rating is it is still pretty heavy for portability. Five star for home use.

Gateway NE71B10u 17.3-Inch Discounts

P. M. Armstrong (USA) :
The computer is great. I have mostly had Gateway computers because I like them. I had a Toshiba once that I loved as well but Gateway is more my style. The only thing I do not like thus far about this laptop is Windows 8. I can definitely see some great aspects to it but it is like learning a whole new operating system. I was replacing my old laptop which died on me hoping to get a similar model, which I did, with the exception of upgrading from Windows 7 to 8. The new software is so different that I am stull learning it weeks later and have not figured it all out. I am getting tired of constantly having to learn a new version of Windows ever few years!

Amy (Michigan) :
The good points: Windows 8 is NOT as bad as you were made to think. Don't let that be your deciding factor; you can even make it look like Windows 7. I like the ability to (semi-easily) customize the trackpad, though the fact that the default is backwards confounds me. I LOVE the mute button, though I wish Home, End, Page Up, and Page Down were their own buttons (this is a 17" laptop, for goodness' sake -- I had it on my 15"!).
The bad point: (which bothers me a lot for some reason) There are NO visual indicators for NumLock or CapsLock. It gets cumbersome when you don't notice you've hit 'CapsLock' instead of 'A' five sentences ago.

Lady Rain (Cincinnat OH) :
As far as I'm concerned, GATEWAY is the only way to go! I purchased my first GATEWAY desktop in 1999 +/- and it lasted nearly 10 years. I gave my laptop to my daughter and updated mine. It's great technology at an excellent price.

Gateway NE56R12u 15.6-Inch Discounts

LordKefka (Walnut Creek, Ca) :
This laptop offers the best bang for your buck. I am extremely rough on my laptops, and tend to replace them yearly: why I no longer purchase expensive units. The system has a windows base score of 4.6. Higher than other similarly priced, or even more expensive machines. The low score is due to the graphics component. This computer is NOT designed for gaming. The processor is similar to an Intel I-3, in fact it is slightly faster in clockspeed. However, the B950 does not have hyperthreading like the newer generation I-3-5-7 processors do. My biggest complaint will be the trackpad (mouse) and keyboard. The trackpad has an abrasiveness that makes it difficult to make quick accurate movements. The keyboard feels cheap, and doesn't spring back the way I would like. The trackpad is easily remedied with an external mouse. While you can use an external keyboard as well, it negates the portability function of a laptop.

Gamer (Southern CA) :
This gateway is probably the best laptop you can get for under $400. This is a full featured 15.6 inch laptop with an Intel Pentium B950 processor which isn't too bad for daily tasks. I already have a gaming laptop/desktop replacement but its a huge 17.3" beast so I needed something portable and cheap to carry around. This laptop is just that! 4 GB DDR3 RAM is enough for everyday tasks and the Hard drive isn't too shabby either. The screen isn't the best but it's ok for the price tag. I recommend this laptop to anyone who is looking for a budget laptop for everyday tasks such as web browsing, shopping, emailing, video chatting etc. Sure, you can't game on this computer with it's crappy Intel integrated graphics, but for $350 what do you expect?

Kathy809 (NORFOLK,VA USA) :
I don't think I've ever seen such a bargain when it comes to buying a laptop. The laptop is pretty and practical. Great for everyday use! Also, the mouse pad has a little area reserved just for scrolling. Pretty neat! I can't say much more because I just got it today and I haven't done much, but I will update after I have some time with it. I'm very happy with the product so far and would definitely recommend it to someone.

Gateway NV52L23u Notebook Computer Discounts

DragonKing1812 (WA) :
Wallmart 478.00 laptop and its screaming fast and plenty powerful for any daily use, and perfect for the typical gamer, may be a little week for the hard core gamers, but I can run DMC and DarkSiders all on High rez (not ultra) with no noticeable lag

Ciscoriko "Alex" (US) :
It is amazing it can run any game best money I've ever spent I recommended it to anyone looking for a cheap computer that works great windows 8 is good and it can do alot of thing

Linda Hoffman (Within) :
The first computer had some problems immediately, so I contacted Amazon who contacted the seller. I was contacted back immediately with a return label and instructions, along with a note from the seller. I shipped the computer back, they sent us a replacement and it started right up with no problems. My grandson is ecstatic with it! I think the operative word here is "immediately". Service was excellent, and the second time around, so was the computer! Thank you all!

Gateway LT Series LT4010U Discounts

Bigghoss (Springfield,IL) :
I'm not very computer savy but I read some reviews online before I bought. Most were positive but there were a few that complained about how slow it was saying that the processor isn't up to snuff. When I first fired it up and got to using it it was pretty slow. I uninstalled and deleted anything I didn't need and made sure I didn't have any unnecessary background programs or extensions running and it seems to do alright now. If you like to multitask this probably isn't for you, but if all you want is a small netbook to take anywhere to surf the net and not much else then it will probably work for you, but there are probably better options that are competitively priced. If you do get it, clean up the had drive by removing anything you know you don't need (tread lightly if you don't know what's important and whats garbage) and running as few programs as possibly at any time.

Jonz (NH, USA) :
This is excellent for the average user, although it can be a trifle slow running the stock operating system, which comes loaded to the hilt with all sorts. However, when you use the remove programs feature and whittle it down to just what you need, it becomes quite a bit faster. It's has a dual core Intel Atom processor and 1 gig of RAM and 320 gig drive. However, if you don't mind losing a bit of trivial functionality, you can do what I did, five minutes after buying it, and wipe the hard drive and put Linux on it (PinguyOS). Wow, real fast now and very stable. A much better computing experience and in doing this you get the full use of the 320 gig hard drive. This is because when you first get it about 13 gig of hard drive space is partitioned off for Gateway 'bloatware' storage which is then hidden. I thought this was a waste of space and made me feel like I didn't really own the computer. But now it's all mine, just the way I like it. Great little piece of kit. Recommended.

Larry D. (Florida) :
Computer is a little slow with 1gb ram, but I installed a 4gb sd card that helped. On ocassions it would reboot by itself. I upgraded it with all new drivers and it improved a lot. I was going to return to seller, but I decided to keep it. Seller was gracious enough to take it back, but I declined.

Sovena (ca) :
After several months Notebook began blue screening. Called Gateway/Acer for support and they were very reluctant to help. They told us to reboot it to inital config (default). This did not fix issue. Sent the unit back for repair - not sure what they did - still blue screens. After going through this the warranty has passed - tech support said we had insufficient Anti-virus which is BS. They want my company to buy extended warranty to fix. I'm in IT and thier tech support is horrible, not to mention having to but coverage after the fact. I swill never purchase Gateway products for my company again.

David Stovall "Mr. (or Uncle or Grampa) Dave" (Grants Pass, OR USA) :
This thing has performed beautifully since I got it (as a gift to my mother-in-law). If you read my seller feedback you'll see that I was skeptical of their claim that this item was being sold as "used" but was "new, in an opened box" (described as a case of buyer's remorse). Turns out that was, as far as I can tell, exactly the condition that this computer was in. And, by the way, based on this one laptop I am raising my opinion of the Acer brand. This was well worth the very reasonable price.

Shianne (ny) :
I was a little apprehensive about a refurbished laptop. I didnt know what to expect especially since I couldnt actually see it before buying it. The computer was everything I wanted especially at a reseaonable price. The computer came about three days before expected and it looked brand new. It put a smile on my face. I would certainly recommend this product wnd the seller. Thank you for making my purchase worth the while.

Gateway NE56R31u Celeron Dual-Core B830 Discounts

Cabernhardt (usd) :
I bought this particular laptop from a different vendor (starts with W and ends with T), but overall it works great. Has more memory than I could ever need. Hasn't acted up or froze (which is a common Acer problem). Windows 8 is kind of goofy, really miss Vista, but theres a way to disable 8 and go back to Vista or 7. Intel processor super fast, use this computer to shop on amazon and run my miles (Im a truckdriver).

Franciscohurtado (ca) :
when I got this computer I was expecting all the exact details like on the amazon listing and it didn't exactly have the same specifics the listing said it had 320 GB but this one had 270GB so that ticked me off but the rest met the exact specifics its just im the type of person who wants to get their moneys worth and I don't think I really got it so becarefull and if u can contact the seller to see the exact specifics of the items f

Mary (ny) :
I have other computer but the Brand is acer, by cause i have to be a investigation abaut the Brand Gateway, i dont like Windows 8 but, that computer have god Price, and good the basics operations for my work , only that

Gateway NE52204u 15.6-Inch Discounts

Tiffany Truong (usd):
The processor isn't as powerful as I was expecting it to be and for unexplicable reasons it has shut off randomly without any warning. Not a full shut down, but I've had to restart it, even though the battery was perfectly fine. It happened twice the first day I used it. I also had issues with the mousepad which stopped working until I restarted the computer and now the scrolling action doesn't work. I also find that because it's on the larger side, my palms will touch mousepad while I am typing and click to other locations. It's not the most portable computer for school, but it gets the job done. I still prefer bringing my tablet to classes over carrying this computer around.

Chels (ca) :
The laptop itself is for the most part user friendly. However, I was very disappointed to discover that there is no cd/dvd compartment. That really sucks....Smh Had I would have noticed, I would have opt'd for another laptop. Well, you live and you learn....

Brian J. Miller (Bloomfield, CT USA) :
I bought this as a replacement for my wife's machine. It seems to have a hard time staying connected to wifi even when every other device in the house has no issues. It also came with Windows 8 which is the worst version Microsoft has created so far. I am considering spending another 100$ to replace it with Windows 7 Pro. If I had to do it over I would spend an extra 100-200$ and get a better machine.

Gateway NE52203u 15.6-Inch Discounts

Tess Krane (Roscoe, IL) :
Really, you need to specify there is no optical drive included especially at this price. Very disappointing. Returned without even opening the box.

Christopher S. (usd) :
This is my first Gateway, I must say I am impressed. I like the way the NE series is put together. The keyboard layout is fantastic. Specially the Function Keys(F1-F12). They are setup so when pressed alone, what is pictured on them is what action is taken. No more useless keys for beginners. It has a nice screen with good graphics, even looks great when using the HDMI output. It has WiFi and Bluetooth. Had only 2 downfalls since purchase. One downfall, though minor, is that there is no internal optical drive(ie: cd/dvd rom). If you install one on your own you void the warranty, so buy an external USB drive. The second downfall is that I had some minor issues shortly after setup(mouse pad issues, screen going blank, etc....), DON'T BE ALARMED. All I did was run a system refresh with the help of Gateway. Has been PERFECT ever since. So I don't believe what others are saying about this laptop. Other than that, the laptop is great for the price and is perfect for students, general everyday users or for those getting their first. Comes with enough hard drive space and memory for most people. I would recommend this to other, definitely. Just not to those who are deep into high end gaming or programs that need a lot of system resources.

Sam (Minnesota) :
This machine is basically functional and it does what it is supposed to do. However, after going through 5-6 older $300 lap tops, I have to say this is the worst screen quality I have ever seen. The contrast is harsh, the sharpness is very low and the general skin tones are unrealistic. To be clear, the problems are with jpeg files and video, not graphics.
If you plan to watch anything of quality, just skip this series of Gateway. Regardless of how I adjust it, the same things I watched on my $300 D**l which just died are just trash on this machine. They really cut corners here. If this is the future of LED technology, I want none of it.
Added: I am beginning to wonder about this screen. I tried everything I could to adjust the screen and could not make it better. Then, for a different issue, I have had to do a few recovery cycles going back and forth and back and forth, ending up where I started and now the screen looks much better. Very odd.

Gateway NE51B16u 15.6-Inch Discounts

Patty "Patty" (Ohio) :
I have had a lot of computers over the years, and two of those being a Gateway desktop. I've never had a Gateway laptop, but I sure do love having one now. It's a little workhorse! Crystal clear images, loads fast, and is so easy to set up. It didn't take me long to figure out Windows 8, and although I like WIndows 7 better, this is pretty easy to use. Everything is right on your desktop and you can remove what you don't want on it and choose what you do want on it.

Pau Lu (CT, USA) :
I've had this laptop for about 3 months now and it's been running smooth. Decent gaming laptop just don't expect to play any games past 2006 or something like that. Love the layout of the keyboard and the keys to change brightness and most amazing the key to access social networks which I think is an amazing idea. The webcam is also good and comes along with its own built in mic which I thought was cool. The only complaint I can have about it is that it has Windows 8 on it. Theres really no point in buying a laptop w/ Windows 8 unless its a touchscreen. However, its bearable.

John Wilson (Michigan) :
I purchased this for my fiancé and I... We both have used it on and off, along with my gateway PC. The laptop is pretty lightweight. Just the right, weight. If you can work Windows 8 and are used to it. This laptop's price is very fair for the specs. It runs quick enough, maybe not the fastest. But that is easily fixed with a cheap upgrade. All-purpose laptop for us. Some gaming, E-Mail, Browsing. It loads everything proper enough. I'd buy another one for sure. I intend to add more memory. Other than that. 4 stars. Satisfied with the purchase.

Gateway NE71B11u 17.3-Inch Discounts

Robert marki (Washinton, USA) :
Coming from a 7 year old dying Dell 15 incher to this beauty was like moving from a Yugo to a Land Rover...I chose the Gateway because it had the right combination of features and price...having a 17.3" screen is one of the main features that still blows me away...having a 500 GB HD didn't hurt either...plus a dual core processor and USB 3.0 and a numeric keypad...
And now about Windows 8...I love it. Having had a Kindle Fire for a year made it a fairly easy transition...once you understand the layout (which really doesn't take that long) you realize how flexible it is...I use keyboard commands to do about everything and with the multi function keypad I will never need a mouse (unless I get Photoshop) And all this for a mere $400...Tablets have their place but for now I love my laptop...

Mrs.Amazing (U.S.A.) :
Gateway is a great product when it comes to computers. The first day i got it I unpacked it,I turned it on,I did the set up from there on its been working great for me. The computer looks great. The keyboard very smooth fast keys. The windows 8 works great for me.I love the tiles they are easy to use.THIS IS MY COMPUTER LOVE!!! I love it and it loves me.!!! ROGER THAT !!!...

Manuel herrera (SAN ANTONIO, TX, US) :
Still trying to figure out windows 8. I've really gotta do something about consolidating my os on all my devices. My phone is android, my tablet is apple, and now my laptop is windows, good way to understand all three though.

Gateway NE56R41u 15.6" Discounts

Daniel Shannon (SoCal) :
I liked the first one so much I bought another one. Both were spotless and worked well. Other reviews said the speakers were bad - they were right - all laptop speakers are bad. Buy some amplified speakers $20 - $40.
Nice computer Great price

Ashley A. Hamm "Agreder" (Cumberland, MD) :
I'm pretty good with computers but wow. WIFI always needs reset to connect. My mouse arrow always sticks. My fiance's just restarted completely back to factory settings for no reason. I'm also not a big fan of windows 8. It's pointless to me and just takes up space. Definitely not a good camera, however, it's not the worst. Does need LOTS of updates right after you buy it which does help it run better. Also has lots of preloaded junk like Wild Tangent that is unneeded. I'm sure there is more I could throw in here but you get the idea.

Sister Susie (McDermott, OH USA) :
I give it a 4 star because I have only had it one day. I never owned gateway before, but gave it a shot. the first one came from central standard time somewhere, maybe Minnesota? or Michigan? it may not have been calibrated correctly so I had to exchange it. This one I hope to have for a while. I am very glad I bought it. This one came from west coast, and did not have any problems with it. I bought both from same store.

Gateway NE72206u 17.3-Inch Discounts

Peggy Wakeman (Anaheim, CA) :
I'd had an HP laptop for six years. Originally, loved it, but it became a chore to haul it around. It was way too heavy and it'd gotten old and slow. This Gateway NE72206u is a racehorse. It boots up quickly, has a nice long battery life and I love every aspect of it's use.

Cynical38. "cynical38" (north texas) :
This was a gift for a young lady who now needs one in middle school. It is more than whe needs at present but is fast enough and capable enough to serve her for a few years.

James P. Tron (West Mifflin, PA, USA) :
Been a Gateway user for years. Only PC/laptop I'll buy, even though Acer bought them out. Great power, memory, and storage for the money. Fast 2GHz quad core processore! Cannot downgrade to Window 7 from 8 since there are only a few available drivers. Installed third party user interface to make it look and act like Windows 7. Works great. My wife is happy with it, and, if she's happy, I'm happy.

Gateway NE56R50u 15.6-Inch Discounts

Steven Brown (Utah, USA) :
If you're on a tight budget, or you just don't want to spend a lot of money, I think this is definitely a great choice. The processor and memory are sufficient for ordinary use, the hard drive is ordinary, it has a ten key on the side, a good quality webcam, reasonable screen resolution and graphics, etc. It will work great for homework, and everyday use. If you play internet video games, it may not be the best choice, but otherwise, good for it's price. Others have something to brag about, and then a weak link to compensate the cost, but this laptop is well balanced to work well.

Rev Charles Margarido "Rev. Chas. E Margarido" (Tunkhannock, Pa, USA) :
I have not owned many laptops, I find this Gateway superb. It has taken a few days to get used to Windows 8, this is just learning.
This seems to be a nice laptop, so far I have been able to do everything I wished to. It is faster than my desktop, for some things.
I have yet to install some programs, this is due to getting used to 8.
I have found no problems, and the Wifi range is great. My Kindle, and other things using wifi, get maybe 2 bars, this laptop gets 3 to 4, which is good, since I use this at the other end of the house.
My next step will be to install FFXI game, on this, and a few other programs, I use daily.

Karen B. Stonier (San Diego, Cal.) :
I wanted to replace a laptop that I have had for several years. I decided on this Gateway because it has all of the features that I wanted - DVD-R, Intel Core, and large enough memory for me. Although I am not really a fan of Windows 8 (it was made for kids), I like this laptop.

Gateway NE56R34u 15.6-Inch Discounts

Eric Knighton (Gardena, California United States) :
Like a previous review I read, I bought my NE56R34u from fry's for $289. With tax it was around $320. I consider myself a knowledgeable person when it comes to computers and I did my homework on this one. I was looking for a PC with the new i3 processor for its multi processing capabilities but the B960 process incorporated in this laptop is the equivalent in overall performance. I am quite happy with the speed and with Windows 8. I wan not so sure that I was going to be able to adapt to the new interface of Windows, but I really like it. I do plan on upgrading this PC to a max of 8gig ram to help with the processing power as I use the PC for Pro Tools, which is a pretty demanding piece of software. So far it handles the software pretty well. I am hoping that by upgrading the RAM some of the smaller glitches will go away.
I would definitely recommend this PC to anyone.

Chels_21 (Illinois) :
I upgraded to this laptop from my 4 year old Acer, did my research and this one seemed the best fit. Windows 8 takes some getting used to, but I love this computer!

Harvey Rubin "video maven" (Morristown, NJ) :
I was looking for an affordable, reasonably fast, easy to use PC for my wife. I found the Gateway NE56R34u 15.6" laptop at a great price at amazon.com. As usual with amazon.com, delivery was quick. The PC worked right out of the box, which is always a good sign. The 15.6" screen is perfect, and the performance is just right. It came with Windows 8, which takes a little getting used to. There is no user manual, but there is a cheat sheet that comes with the unit. It is very helpful, but not needed once you get the hang of the Windows 8 user interface. I highly recommend this PC to anyone looking for a moderately priced unit that does the job.
